Certified Commissioning Technician – CxT Overview

The primary goal of the Certified Commissioning Technician (CxT) Overview training program is to provide participants with the necessary information, principles, direction, and materials to effectively execute and supervise commissioning, as well as the credentials linked to its practitioners.

A Certified Commissioning Technician (CxT) is a professional who can access, test, and evaluate building systems for the performance of technical commissioning.

ACG has introduced a second-tier certification, the Certified Commissioning Technician (CxT), for those lacking the technical and management experience required for the Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA).

Under the supervision of a CxA, CxT candidates are required to work for an ACG member company. A minimum of two years of field testing experience, a minimum of six months of employment at the ACG member company, and endorsement by a CxA at that company are additional requirements for CxT certification. Furthermore, candidates are required to participate in an ACG workshop or webinar prior to obtaining certification.

CTs demonstrate their knowledge of building system technical commissioning by meeting specific pre-requisite requirements, engaging in self-directed study, passing the CxT exam, and upholding their certification through continuing education.

Commissioning is a systematic process that guarantees the design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of a facility’s systems and components, ensuring they meet the operational requirements of the owner or client. The Certified Commissioning Technician (CxT) credential demonstrates their expertise in this process.

A Commissioning Certified Technician requires a background in engineering, architecture, or a related field, practical experience in commissioning or facility management, and completion of training programs on commissioning principles, building systems, and tools. A certification exam tests their knowledge of the commissioning process and industry standards.

The role of the CxT is increasingly vital in contemporary construction and facility management. As building systems become more complex and integrated, the need for skilled technicians who can ensure these systems operate efficiently and effectively has grown. A qualified CxT can lead a well-executed commissioning process that significantly enhances building performance, resulting in energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and lifecycle cost reduction.

Krishnaji Pawar, the CEO and founder of Beyond Smart Cities, developed the Certified Commissioning Technician – CxT Overview Training.

The CxT plays a crucial role in modern construction and facility management as building systems become more complex and integrated. A qualified CxT can lead a well-executed commissioning process, enhancing building performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and lifecycle cost reduction.
