Components of Building Energy Systems

The training program entitled “Components of Building Energy Systems” imparts fundamental skills and instruments essential for energy modeling. Local climate data, the building envelope and walls, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, lighting systems, internal and process loads, and the modeling of bought, shared, and renewable energy systems are all part of it.

The BEMP certification is an ANSI-accredited program for personnel certification under ISO/IEC 17024 (#1139). It proves that you can use a variety of physics to model new and existing buildings and systems and judge the outcomes of energy modeling software when used to study the energy performance and economics of buildings and systems. This certification is valid for those who have demonstrated competency in these areas.

Beyond Smart Cities specializes in energy modeling for various building types and climate zones. Energy engineers used energy modeling to size cooling and heating equipment in buildings. In the mid-20th century, architects abandoned rational climate response and relied on engineers for building comfort and lighting. They have created thousands of dynamic simulation energy models to improve building performance, identify opportunities, and mitigate hazards throughout all design stages.

Krishnaji Pawar, an expert in energy modeling, created the Components of Building Energy Systems training. He focuses on green building certification systems, energy modeling, commissioning, environmental impact assessment, and environmental management systems.

Building Energy Modeling Applications

  • Architectural Design: Helps architects design energy-efficient buildings, reducing both energy and construction costs.
  • HVAC Design and Operation: Assists mechanical engineers in designing efficient HVAC systems for commercial buildings.
  • Building Performance Rating: Assesses a building’s inherent performance, guiding processes like code compliance, green certification, and financial incentives.
  • Building Stock Analysis: Supports the development of energy codes and standards, aiding in large-scale energy-efficiency programs.

Whole-Building Energy Modeling (BEM) is a versatile tool used in new and retrofit building design, code compliance, tax credits and utility incentives qualification, real-time building control, large-scale analyses for building energy-efficiency codes, and policy decision-making.

Learning Objectives

  • An overview of building energy system components.
  • Use of local climate data and the best weather data source.
  • Building envelopes and partitions.
  • Building HVAC Systems
  • Lighting Systems
  • Other internal and process loads.
