A science-based target (SBT) in favour of a net-zero future can be set with the help of this learning course, which will take you through the process. The purpose of Beyond Science-Based Targets Initiative – SBTi training is to introduce the project while also enhancing and illuminating the complexity and benefits associated with SBTs. You will learn how the Net-Zero Standard provides a common, robust, and science-based understanding of net-zero; you will receive guidance on how to set science-based net-zero targets consistent with limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C; you will align your company’s near- and long-term targets with climate science, showcasing their benefits as well as the business case for doing so; and you will align your company’s near- and long-term targets with climate science.

By adopting science-based targets, companies are given a clear path to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This helps to reduce the worst effects of climate change and secures the growth of companies for the future. In light of the most recent climate science findings, the United Nations Global Compact urges all businesses to set science-based goals with 1.5°C pathways and reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible but no later than 2050.

The number of companies that say they will reach net-zero emissions is growing quickly. However, not all companies have the same goals for reaching net-zero emissions.

If people don’t stick to a single idea, there is a chance that net-zero targets won’t match up and that their effects won’t add up to much.

The Net-Zero Standard was made because corporations needed a clear definition of what “net zero” means. It is the first framework in the world to provide a structure for setting net-zero targets for corporations that are in line with climate science. With the assistance of this e-learning course offered by the Academy, you will be able to establish a science-based objective that is supportive of a “net-zero” future.
