About Course
Innovative Measurement and Verification Training
Measurement and verification (M&V) is the process of using measurements to determine the actual energy savings generated by energy management projects at individual sites. Common M&V activities include metering, data collection and processing, transparent savings calculations, monitoring, quality assurance, and third-party report verifications.
In the past decade, a number of interrelated factors have contributed to the expansion of advanced M&V. In many markets, investments in smart meter infrastructure are primarily motivated by the need to better manage the electric grid in order to enhance national security and resiliency.
This necessitates improved monitoring and control of grid assets, as well as more rapid feedback. In other jurisdictions, legislative actions, executive orders, and utility commission decisions have resulted in policies mandating the use of utility meter data to account for the effects of demand-side management programs.
Concurrently, the private sector has utilized the availability of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data to rapidly develop software and analytical tools, such as various Energy Information Management Systems.
For those who want to learn advanced M&V concepts, the Advanced Measurement and Verification training program provides hands-on exercises and concepts that serve to complement and reinforce theoretical knowledge acquired through common M&V certification courses and designations.
