Beyond Measurement and Verification – M&V

Measurement and verification (M&V) is the process of utilizing measurements to determine the actual energy savings generated by individual energy management projects. Common M&V activities include metering, data collection and processing, transparent savings calculations, monitoring, quality assurance, and report verifications by third parties.

Beyond Measurement and Verification (M&V) is a training program for those who want to learn advanced M&V concepts. It provides hands-on exercises and concepts that complement and reinforce the theoretical knowledge acquired through common M&V certification courses and designations.

We focus on the application of various statistical tools for the development of M&V plans, including sampling, linear regressions (including multivariable regressions), and uncertainty calculations. International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) options for lighting, motors and variable speed drives, compressed air, heat recovery systems, and commercial buildings are discussed. For these cases, participants also perform calculations. The section concludes with the creation of an M&V plan.
